At Tommy’s, sustainability is an important part of our commitment to addressing the challenges of food waste and food poverty. Globally, one-third of all food produced is wasted, much of it ending up in landfills and contributing to greenhouse gas emissions. In New Zealand, this issue is close to home, with many Kiwis affected by both food waste and food poverty. A 2014 survey revealed that one in six New Zealanders ran out of money for food—something we’re determined to help address.

Since partnering with Everybody Eats, Tommy’s has proudly supported this incredible initiative, which turns surplus food into restaurant-quality, three-course meals for those in need.

One of our standout contributions was hosting fundraising events, where we raised over $8,000 during one dinner and $4,000 at another. This support helped Everybody Eats remain operational, expand their services, and host special events like gala nights. Our contributions alone helped fund approximately 1,600 meals—equivalent to a month’s worth of service, with each meal making a real difference.

Beyond financial support, our team has been actively involved, volunteering in the kitchen and helping to serve meals. We’ve also placed a tap donation machine at our office front desk, quietly collecting much-needed funds to keep the initiative going. For us, supporting Everybody Eats is about more than donations; it’s about rolling up our sleeves and making a tangible impact in our community.

Jack Rainey, Restaurant Manager at Everybody Eats Wellington, shared his thoughts on the partnership: “Everybody Eats Wellington is proud of the partnership with Tommy’s Real Estate. Over the past 12 months, Tommy’s has not only provided financial backing but also volunteered in the kitchen and restaurant. Last year, they hosted a fundraising dinner while helping plate up meals and wash dishes. We’re excited to host our next annual fundraising dinner.

Their tap donation machine at their office continues to generate vital funds, helping us stay operational. We’re incredibly grateful for Tommy’s generosity—they set a shining example of how business success goes beyond financials. It’s about uplifting the community.”
